Meditation Monday--My Town (The Waving Bear)

On the highway leading to or going away from Podunk there is an objet d'art that my children search for every time we travel that highway. He's a white bear that continually waves at the drivers of 69 highway. The story, as I was told it, is that the man who created the bear did so on accident. He was actually trying to put in a backyard garden but kept hitting rocks, as he tilled up the earth. Every time he dug up another one he stacked it in a pile at the edge of his property facing the highway. After awhile he noticed that the pile of rocks sort of looked like a bear! So he did what any normal person would do, he covered that pile of rocks with concrete and created the waving bear.
Back in the day (when I was a kid) he used to paint the bear brown in the Spring and then white in the Winter. But these days he's just white all year long. It just makes him easier to spot, I think. So if you're traveling towards Podunk keep a look out for the waving bear and make sure you wave back!

Well it's Monday again. It's time to take a second for yourself! So take a few deep breaths, find your inner calm--if necessary lock the kids in their closets. Enjoy!

Now I realize that the waving bear is not technically in my town, not even in my county but it is a local landmark and when you live in a rural environment anything within a 30 minute drive is "local". In the case of the bear it's only 5 or 10 minutes away. Might as well be just down the block!

Peace Out!
