Writer's Workshop: Where I'm From

This poem is a simple list of items that (I hope) gives you a glimpse of into my history, my childhood, and my subconscious. They are familiar items that explain what I'm about and... Where I'm From.

I am from trains; rock, rock, rock me to sleep, from a deep Pledge shine and barbecue.
I am from the screen door slamming, "Were you born in a barn?"
I am from the sticks and stones may break your bones but, the poison ivy will itch ya!
I am from barefoot running down gravel roads and Spanish expletives, from Coffey's and Madrid's and Mexi-billy.
I am from the loud talkin' and yet suffer in silence.
From choose your battles wisely and shut your light off if you're not in your room!
I am from pray when you are in need and forget God exists otherwise (and now back on my knees).
I’m from Cider Fest by way of Merriam, Gringo chili and homemade bread, enchiladas and tortillas.
From the mobster hiding grandpa, the dirt floors, and the sweaty summer nights and frigid winter outhouses.
From the bulging, static photo albums detailing their marriage and lives, the photos now stuck and ruined, and the meaning lost and pointless.
I am from these moments, past to present and now my moments become theirs. The next stanza begins their past.
