Didja miss me?

Hi. Remember me? I know it's been awhile. I know that many of you have been wondering where I've been. I know this because of the numerous emails, texts and Facebook pokes. I'm still alive. You can now release a collective sigh of relief.
It was really nice to know that I've been missed. In fact, knowing that what I write here means so much to others is really humbling. Thanks for checking on me and I hope that I haven't disappointed too many of you. But sometimes a break, whether intentional or not, is necessary.
So let's get to the meat of it! Where have I been and what have I been doing? Unfortunately, it hasn't been anything exciting. Remember that sinus/ear infection that I told you about around Thanksgiving? Well... I'm still dealing with it! I'm on my fourth round of antibiotics and third round of steroids. I had to go and count the bottles just to be sure. It looks like I will suffer some permanent hearing loss IF after my ear finally clears. The whole thing has really taken a lot out of me. I'm still sleeping a lot (like 10-12 hours a day) and just the effort it takes to do the grocery shopping is reason enough for a nap.
But there's more to it than just illness, although it's certainly enough. The longer I was away, the harder it became to come back. It started with a bad internet connection--the whole town of Podunk was down for a couple of days; my street for about four. Ever try living without a debit card for a couple of days? Not as easy as you might think.
Then after the internet was available, I had a hard time taking the time to write and a harder time coming up with anything to say. (It's taken me 90 minutes just to write this.) Even firing up the laptop up took real effort, because I've known since way before my "vacation" that I was suffering from some burn out.
Now if I were smart I would have used my time away to reevaluate the purpose of this blog and decide how I wanted to proceed but as you all know, "smart" really isn't my style; I'm more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants-kinda-gal. So like everything in life, it's going to be a work in progress.

*Please nobody panic. I will continue to blog and I will continue the blog as you know it but I have a real desire to branch out. I have a few children's books sitting on my hard drive, along with several short stories and the beginnings of a couple of novels. I know that this isn't the place for either of those, so I need to decide how to proceed. I've got some serious head scratching to do.

Peace Out!
