Hi and welcome to my blog. I really think parents need to lighten up; I mean, if parenting was meant to be a serious endeavor they'd offer classes! Oh, wait....

Writer's Workshop: School Days

3.) Your morning routine.

The end of summer is upon us. School begins in SIX days and the leisurely days of staying up late and sleeping in, have come to an end....

What am I saying? I still get up at the same time. Ok maybe a half-hour later but it's not like I'm laying around until noon or something. If breakfast isn't on the table by 8:30 the kids turn cannibal!

But still, very soon I will no longer be allowed to hang out in my PJs all day until noon and that makes me very sad.

Way too soon it will be back to early mornings, breakfast on the fly, and scrambling to find backpacks. Too soon homework, Daisy Scout meetings and uber competitive, bitchy mommies will dominate my days.

In many ways I'm ready for the structure and purpose that school brings but in many ways I really don't want the summer to end. I'm ready for a few hours a day to myself. The boys will be in Kindergarten (half day) after all. But I don't think I'm ready for what the beginning of school really means.

This officially means my children are school age and the race to adulthood now begins. There will be many firsts beginning Wednesday, both good and bad, and I don't know if I'm ready for the next phase of this journey. The end of summer, in many ways, marks the winter of my children's childhoods.

Peace Out!
