Hi and welcome to my blog. I really think parents need to lighten up; I mean, if parenting was meant to be a serious endeavor they'd offer classes! Oh, wait....

Writer's Workshop: Baa, Baa, Black Sheep

2.) What do childhood rhymes even mean? Write something that includes a rhyme you used to sing or say when you were a child.
As a child I was read to. A lot. I can quote large amounts of Dr. Zeus's collective works to this day. But I am also well versed in the classics. Unfortunately, my children didn't get read to as much. I blame the fact that I had three kids in 22 months, but mostly it's because my kids really don't stay still for any period of time.
Autism colors my family's world in more ways than I sometimes ever realize. It's usually only after I step back, that I see the differences in how other people live. One of the differences that I often find amusing is how different Myriam HEARS the world. If you ever listen to Temple Grandin speak about trying to learn to talk she says that she didn't hear all the parts of the words and that her mother spent large periods of time sounding things out.
In Myriam's case, she never had speech delays but her pronuciation of some words is often interesting. A good example is the nursery rythme Baa Baa Black Sheep....

Blah, blah, black sheep have you any rolls?
Yes sir! Yes sir! Three bags full.
One for the day, one for the dame,
And one for the the little boy whose house down the lake.
Blah, blah, black sheep have you any rolls?
Yes sir! Yes sir! Three bags full.

Please note I've tried correcting her, and she will repeat the correct words but then will go back to her version as soon as I move on to something else. At this point I've given up correcting her. I kinda figure her version makes just as much sense as any other nursery rythme....

Peace Out!
