Hi and welcome to my blog. I really think parents need to lighten up; I mean, if parenting was meant to be a serious endeavor they'd offer classes! Oh, wait....

Resolution 2011: All for a Better Life (With Children)

The time has come to be a realistic parent.  I cannot continue in this fashion and expect my sanity to remain intact or for my children to live long enough to make it to adulthood.  I am not the Superwoman that I appear to be—ok that was sarcasm.  But the fact is that I’m not very happy right now.  And I haven’t been happy since I became The Mommy.  I have happy moments but overall…life isn’t the best right now.  And frankly, I’m sick of complaining about it because no one is going to fix it for me!  So in the spirit of self-help, I am making the following resolutions….

  • Learn the difference between what I can and can't change.
  • STOP YELLING!!!!  Even though I never made it through the 7 Day Challenge I set for myself, I’m taking it to the next level.  I realize it’s going to take a long time to unlearn this behavior so instead of beating myself up for failing everyday, I’m going to learn why I yell, what triggers it and how to change that behavior.
  • Find a better way to discipline and instruct my children.
  • Organize home storage i.e., closets, garage, and basement.  And that means purge, Purge, PURGE!
  • Dress better.  I have nice clothes.  It’s time to wear them.
  • Get my blog tabs working.  (Pay someone if necessary.)
  • Book a minimum of one photography client per month.

The last four are continuations from last year.  I accomplished them in varying degrees and would like to continue.
  • Drink more water.  Everyday.  Not just Monday through Friday.
  • Attend Girls’ Night Out a minimum of once a month.
  • Have a monthly Date Night with my husband.
  • Try one new recipe a week.
I don’t believe that these are overly lofty goals.  And I truly believe that if when I accomplish them I will be a happier and a more well-rounded person.  Overall, I want 2011 to be about finding the self worth I had when I was a working mother, and recognizing the value of working on being a mother.

Help me keep an eye on my Resolutions! Follow the Series.

Amen! I've known for a long time that I did not want to be a stay-at-home mom. I love my kids, but I'm a work-aholic like my dad. I think I'd go nuts at home. I admire you and your advice on being a better mom. Thanks! I look forward to reading more! -Terina

Being a SAHM takes a certain breed, and I'm not it. Cheers to all those fantastic Mommies out there! I love that you love what you do. I still, on the other hand, am waiting for the nanny to arrive. Thanks for commenting and following, Terina!
