Living! (On the Cheap)--Dagg Park

So last night was Girl’s Night Out (hereafter to be known as GNO) and for once I was able to attend. After a few glasses of wine, some fantastic food, and a lot of gut-wrenching laughter we all began speaking of how we choose to entertain our growing families—all while sticking to a very tight budget. Most of my girlfriends were of the same opinion as me; if I can’t do it inexpensively, it’s not happening! We all want to provide healthy, enriching experiences for our children but we shouldn't have to choose whether to do something as a family or eat this week.  So one of my besties said, “Becca (that’s my name by the way), you’re always posting pictures on Facebook of things your family is doing. Why don’t you blog about the best, cheap or free places a family can go?”

And I thought that was a fantastic idea! So beginning today I will do a sometimes weekly “Living! (On the Cheap)” segment featuring places that my family and I have tried out. Maybe you will find a new favorite hang out, and maybe I can commit tax fraud and write these expenses off as business travel on my taxes…hmm….
Since this is the last "official" weekend of summer I thought that I should share Dagg Park with you. Dagg Park** has everything the "cheap family" could want in a public park. Swing sets and slides abound, oh and did I mention they have a wading pool and fountains the kids can play in????? If your kids are like mine, nothing beats time spent playing in the water!
Dagg Park is located at 715 E. 21st Ave.  Just East of North Kansas City City Hall.
You will need a few essentials if you’re going to enjoy your Dagg Park experience to the fullest….
  • A swim suit and swim diaper (for those that aren’t potty trained) are required if your children are going to play in the wading pool. If they are just going to run around in the fountain, play clothes are fine.
  • A change of clothing (don't forget shoes)—for everyone! Everyone is gonna get wet, trust me!
  • Towels might not be a bad idea.
  • A picnic! Why waste money on fast food when nice picnic facilities are provided.
  • Sunscreen. Although the fountain and some of the playground equipment is shaded the wading pool is not.
  • And a camera! The photo opts are just too good to pass up. Speaking of which....
These are my boys, Porter and Logan.
Logan doing his impression of Jesus walking on water!
Myriam at her happiest--when she's sopping wet!

Dagg Park is open daily. The wading pool is open from noon until 6 pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day. And in case I forgot to mention it, it’s free!!!
The Family after the fountains.  Oh yes, you will get wet!
Although I do my best to ensure that the information I report is current and correct, I suggest that you always follow up for yourself. If you would like more information about this North Kansas City Park or any other park in the Northland check out this link  http://www.nkc.org/
**I was in no way compensated for this review this is just a tip I like to pass on to my readers and friends.
